New CLS Infra fellow Lara Nugues at the Trier Center for Digital Humanities

This spring, Lara Nuuges is spending six weeks on exchange in the Computational Literary Studies Infrastructure project at the Trier Center for Digital Humanities (TCDH). With her broad academic background in French literature, history of philosophy, phenomenology and metaphysics, among others, she supports various teams as a collaborator and doctoral student, e.g. in the project "Mining the Comic Verse" at the University of Basel. She is also responsible for the French theater corpus at MISHA Strasbourg in the project "TheALTres" and advises on the French-language corpus of the project "European poetry: distant reading" at the Czech Literature Institute.

The project Lara Nugues is involved with at TCDH consists of creating a French-language corpus of 19th-century vaudeville plays to study the humor in the sung and rhymed parts of these plays, called couplets. Furthermore, the corpus construction will be reflected: What criteria are used to select the texts? Which OCR techniques should be used for this kind of text? What attitude should be taken towards the original text; more conservative or more interventionist? And finally, what level of granularity should be chosen for markup in XML and for what purpose?

We look forward to the scientific exchange and welcome them to the team.
